I'm fascinated by personal "everyday life" stories in history. With the České vzpomínky series, I worked from personal 20th century memorabilia that I collected while living in Brno, Czech Republic. While my work depicts memories belonging to the people who owned the source materials I worked from, it is also about my own memories and attachments to a distinct time and place. With this series I wanted to investigate the similarities and discontinuities of the human experience between cultures and how we relate and dissociate as 21st century Americans.
Recently, I've been thinking about the idea of artist as citizen and what that means for the work I create. Looking into social issues as content for my work has instilled in me a passion for bringing awareness to our harmful human practices.
